During my residency at Het Hem in 2022, I explored the transformation of Scottish tartan a fabric deeply rooted in my family history into a new form of portraiture. Selecting a small group of friends as my subjects, I wove their identities into both individual and group portraits, using variations of color to reflect their individuality. Through large silk pieces (130 cm by 200 cm), I reinterpreted tartan beyond its traditional patterns, blending personal heritage with contemporary abstraction. This body of work became a way to bridge the past and present, tradition and reinvention, identity and fabric.
